BSc Agribusiness
Programme Objectives
The BSc. programme offered by the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension seeks to develop competent personnel who can respond to current and emerging challenges in agribusiness management and related fields, and function effectively as professional practitioners in the field. The Department was established in 1988 as one of the five (5) Departments in the School of Agriculture. It started with the teaching of undergraduate courses in the general B.Sc. Agricultural programme. However, in 2012 the need was identified for the establishment of the programme. This culminated in the development of a curriculum for the programme, which finally started in 2013. The University has since been admitting students into the programme to be trained with the programme’s current curriculum. About two batches of students have graduated from the programme and currently, all levels on the programme structure are filled with students. Having implemented the curriculum over the last five years, the University has seen the need to make some review in the programme’s structure based on the emerging trends in and outside Ghana.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must have passes in Core English, Core Mathematics, and Integrated Science (Grade D or better for SSSCE candidates and Grade C6 or better for WASSCE candidates).
In addition, applicants must have three (3) elective passes under any of the options below: Option One—General Agriculture, Chemistry, and one other Science or Agriculture subject; Option Two—Chemistry, Biology, and Physics or Elective Mathematics; Option Three—any three Agricultural Science electives such as General Agriculture, Crop Husbandry and Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, or Forestry; Option Four—three technical course passes including at least one science subject; Option Five—three Visual Art course passes including at least one science subject; Option Six—three Home Economics course passes including at least one science subject; or Option Seven—credit passes in any three General Arts or Business subjects.
