Programme Objectives
Objective(s)
Objectives of the programme include;
- turn out more students for professional careers related to crime prevention and detection;
- provide students with critical thinking and technical skills required for lifelong success in forensic and investigative sciences.
- produce confident, competent and ethically-minded future forensic scientists.
- advance the various fields through innovative research to solve pertinent problems that confront the country.
- impart knowledge, skills and intellectual leadership in the public and private sector.
The Department of Forensic Sciences was formed out of the erstwhile Department of Biomedical and Forensic Sciences. In 2015, during the reorganization of University of Cape Coast into colleges, Biomedical related programmes of the then Department of Biomedical and Forensic Sciences were migrated to the School of Allied Health Sciences to form a Department of Biomedical Science, leaving the B.Sc. Forensic Science programme in the School of Biological Sciences under the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences.
Accreditation to run the B.Sc. Forensic Sciences programme was given on 1st August, 2017. The first batch of students was enrolled into the programme in the 2015/2016 academic year. Another round of admissions were made in the 2016/2017, 2017/2018, 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 academic years. Thus, the Department has graduated three batches of students so far.
The Department of Forensic Sciences was established in August 2015 with six students and five faculty members.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must have passes in Core English, Core Mathematics, and Integrated Science (Grade D or better) for SSSCE candidates and Grade C6 or better for WASSCE candidates.
In addition, applicants must have passes in three elective subjects selected from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Elective Mathematics.
