The Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) was designed as a transition from the old Bachelor of Commerce degree by the School of Business that did not have specializations. Bachelor of Commerce became the common stem for the School of Business’ bachelor’s programmes. Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) became the replacement for the School’s erstwhile Bachelor of Commerce programme. The new programme introduced, in response to stakeholder feedback, now include courses in public sector accounting, computer applications in accounting, and elements of finance beyond financial management. The programme has also strengthened the ethical training in the accounting curricula.

Aim(s)
The aim of the programme is to provide accounting and business education that eqips accounting personnel with the requisite technical knowledge, skills, character and abilities fit for prudent stewardship of resources in the private and public sectors of the economy.
Objective(s)
Graduates of the programme will:
- be equipped with the requisite technical knowledge in accounting and the skills, character and competencies required for the prudent management of organizational resources.
- be able to prepare and present financial reports in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards, and the institutional, legal and regulatory framework of Ghana.

Entry Requirements
The modes of entry into the Bachelorrevised of Commerce (Accounting) programme are:

Holders of West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) must obtain passes in English, core Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies. Candidates must also have credit passes in any three (3) elective subjects including Financial Accounting. An applicant’s aggregate should not exceed 36.

Holders of Senior High School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) must obtain passes in core English, core Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies. Candidates must also have credit passes in any three (3) elective subjects including Financial Accounting. The applicant’s aggregate should be 24 or better.

Professional/Business Examination Certificate Holders: Candidates with Part I of the following Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants also qualify.

Mature Candidates: Candidates who are at least 25 years at the time of application and have credit passes in English and Mathematics at GCE ‘O’ level or WASSCE, are eligible to apply. Candidates will be required to pass an entrance examination, which consists of a General Paper and a Special Paper covering Management and Economics. Candidates who pass the entrance examination will be interviewed. Successful candidates will be admitted.

Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy holders with at least Second Class (Upper Division) are eligible. Candidates with Diploma in Accounting awarded by a recognized University are also eligible. Candidates under this category will be admitted to commence the programme at Level 300.

Graduation Requirements
- Course Requirements: A candidate for the BCom (Accounting) degree must pass all courses taken, meet Inter-Faculty course requirements.
- Credit Requirements: A candidate must accumulate a minimum of 140 credits (including Advance Credits).
- Additional Requirements: The candidate must attain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.0. In addition, the candidate must have settled financial and other obligations to the university.
