How to Apply

About This Programme

a) Post-Senior High School Candidates i) Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) The candidate must have credit passes (A – D) in six (6) subjects with an overall aggregate of 24 or better. Three (3) of the six subjects must be core subjects (which include English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science), plus three (3) science-based or Technical elective subjects.

ii) West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE): The candidate must have credit passes (A1 – C6) in six (6) subjects with an overall aggregate of 36 or better. Three (3) of the six subjects must be core subjects (which include English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science), plus three (3) science-based or Technical elective subjects.

b) General Certificate of Education Holders of the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level (obtained not more than three years before the time of application) must, in addition to credit passes in five (5) GCE 'O' Level subjects (including English and Mathematics) and have, at least, passed Physics and Elective Mathematics with any one of the following; (Chemistry, Biology)

c) Higher National Diploma Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computer Sciences, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering would be considered for admission and placed at Level 200 or Level 300 depending on the academic performance and the match between the HND courses. Where there is a good match, a minimum of Second-Class Upper Division is required for admission to level 300. Where the match is not good, the candidate will be admitted to Level 200.

d) Mature Applicants i) The candidate must be at least 25 years old by 31st December of the year preceding the Mature Students’ Entrance Examination. A certified copy of birth certificate or legitimate documents is required. The date of issue of the birth certificate should not be less than five years from the date of the completion of the admission forms.

ii) The candidate must have G.C.E. “O” Level or SSSCE/WASSCE credit passes in English Language and Core Mathematics. Candidates who do not have the required “O” Level/SSSCE/ WASSCE passes will be required to take Special Entrance Examination papers in the two subjects.

iii) The candidate must take the Mature Students’ Entrance Examination, which consists of a General Paper for all candidates and an Aptitude Test.

iv) Candidates who pass all papers in the Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations will be ranked and those who fall within the approved quota will be invited for interview.

e) Foreign Students All foreign students may be admitted only after seeking approval from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission; which determines the equivalences and eligibility for admission.

Programme Aim

Aim(s)

The aim of this programme is to produce graduates with strong competencies in computer engineering, capable of designing, developing, and integrating hardware and software systems to solve real-world societal and industrial problems, while leveraging state-of-the-art technologies for innovation, employment, and career advancement.

Programme Objectives

Objective(s)

  • Equip students with theoretical, conceptual, and practical knowledge in computer engineering for application in industry;
  • Develop the competence of graduates in emerging technologies including quantum computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, nanotechnology and other computing applications;
  • Enhance graduate’s ability to develop models and frameworks for problem solving.
  • Inculcate ethical and professional standards in the graduates

Entry Requirements

Post-Senior High School candidates - SSSCE: the candidate must have credit passes (A - D) in six (6) subjects with an overall aggregate of 24 or better. Three (3) of the six subjects must be core subjects (which include English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science), plus three (3) science-based or Technical elective subjects.

Graduation Requirements

  1. Course Requirements: A candidate for the BCom (Accounting) degree must pass all courses taken, meet Inter-Faculty course requirements.
  2. Credit Requirements: A candidate must accumulate a minimum of 140 credits (including Advance Credits).
  3. Additional Requirements: The candidate must attain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.0. In addition, the candidate must have settled financial and other obligations to the university.

Employment Prospects of Graduates

Upon graduation, students can be employed in the following sectors as aligned with their specialisation: the information technology sector; computer and electronic product manufacturing; telecommunication; aerospace and defence; automotive; the financial sector; energy and petroleum; the educational sector; government and the public sector; entertainment and gaming industries; the health sector; e-commerce and online retail; the secondary sector; and freelancing and remote work.

The programme is accessed by graduates of second-cycle institutions holding WASSCE/SSSCE or equivalent qualifications, graduates of relevant diploma and Higher National Diploma programmes from recognised technical universities or their equivalents, and mature students working in the banking, energy, communication and digitalisation sectors.
