Aim(s)

The aim of the programme is to produce graduates with relevant knowledge and skills in Nutrition to prevent nutritional conditions, promote the health and wellbeing of the population.

Programme Objectives

Objective(s)

The specific objectives of the programme are to: (i) equip students with the knowledge and skills to conduct nutritional assessments, monitor and evaluate nutritional outcomes using evidence- based approaches (ii) train students to develop and implement interventions to prevent nutritional problems in the community-level (iii) train students who will promote ethical behaviour and adherence to standards of the Nutrition professional practice and codes of conduct at all times. (iv) develop the entrepreneurial and innovation competencies of students to work in the food and beverage industry

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics is one of the six academic departments within the School of Allied Health Sciences, College of Health and Allied Sciences, University of Cape Coast. It is situated on the ground floor of the C. A. Ackah Lecture Complex at the University’s North Campus. The Department was established in 2016 to advance training and research in the field of nutrition and dietetics. In December,2023, the Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Dietetics programme received its first official accreditation, with an initial intake of 84 students, marking a major milestone in its growth and development. Since then, the programme has steadily expanded, offering students high-quality training grounded in both theory and practical experience. From its inception, the Department has enrolled and trained cohorts of students who are now contributing as skilled professionals to healthcare delivery and dietetics-related services in Ghana and beyond. To date, the programme has successfully graduated over 84 students, thereby strengthening the capacity of the health sector with competent Nutritionists committed to promoting health and nutrition.
